Each month we honor mentors who go above and beyond. This month we are excited to announce that Nancy Filbin (Sacajawea Middle) and Kregg Aytes (Irving Elementary), are our February Mentors in the Spotlight! Congratulations, Nancy and Kregg!
CAP Mentor:
Nancy Filbin (Sacajawea Middle)
Nancy has been an exceptional CAP mentor to her student for many years now! She understands her student’s strengths and challenges and works each week to encourage, stretch, and celebrate him. She shows up each week with her bag of goodies, prepared for a variety of activities. Nancy naturally works with him to set goals and overcome obstacles. Her CAP student lights up when he talks about her. We are so grateful to have Nancy as a CAP Mentor at SMS!
CAP Mentor:
Kregg Aytes (Irving Elementary)
Kregg began mentoring over 7 years ago because his wife, a teacher, saw the positive impact CAP mentors made on her students and encouraged him to volunteer! Since then Kregg has mentored two students and has truly made a positive impact with his thoughtful enthusiasm for learning both in and out of the classroom. His current student shared, “I like having Kregg as my CAP mentor because I learn new things, like juggling! I am also excited that he can go with me to middle school next year!”
It is clear that his mentorship and dedication to his mentee is valued and has made a meaningful impact worth celebrating! Congratulations, Kregg!
