The Family Support Worker is responsible for:
– Working with young parents with children ages zero to five years of age, and
– Providing preventative, consistent, long-term support, encouragement, and education to each family through home visiting.
This position is part of Thrive’s Partnership Project and is designed to both collaborate with other community resources and work one-on-one with families to build upon individual strengths of the family. The Family Support Worker has an office in Thrive but also travels to clients’ homes daily. They must be able to effectively work while shuffling between the office and home visits with little supervision. On occasion, clients in crisis may contact a Family Support Worker outside of regular work hours and the Family Support Worker must answer/respond to the call in a timely manner.

-Exceptional knowledge and understanding of child development, parenting strategies, and problem solving of child behaviors
-Ability to assist families in forming and implementing a plan with attainable goals, objectives, and activities that are aimed at further improving each family’s current situation
-Skills in using logic and reasoning to review information and identify and evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems and ability to implement decisive solutions
-Demonstrated skills and abilities in facilitating group parenting classes
-A valid driver’s license, reliable form of transportation, and current proof of vehicle insurance.
-A four-year degree in human development, social work, or related field, and
-2+ years of experience providing direct services to families
–Or, an equal combination of education and work experience
