The Parent Liaison position supports students, families and school staff and promotes the academic success and the social and emotional health of students. (S)he is responsible for developing enhanced parent and school communications, increasing opportunities for parents to participate as partners with schools in the academic and social growth of their children and assisting parents in connecting them with community resources.

Occasionally, a Parent Liaison may be contacted outside of regular work hours to work in special circumstances. The Parent Liaison should answer/respond to the call in a timely manner and if unavailable, then (s)he should direct to someone that is available to make contact in a timely manner.

 

Primary job responsibilities:

Job specific:

    • Facilitates effective communication and positive relationships between school officials and parents. Encourages parental involvement with the school and assists parents in finding meaningful ways to participate in school activities.
    • Assists parents in identifying and implementing positive parenting practices.
    • Provides emotional support to parents.
    • Assists parents in identifying and accessing community services which relate to the family’s needs.
    • Assists parents in identifying and building upon their family’s strengths.
    • Facilitates parenting workshops, including Love and Logic and Thriving series.
    • Facilitates teacher workshops, including EPAP (Engaging Parents as Partners).
    • Assists teachers in understanding the family’s dynamics, circumstance and/or background that may be contributing to learning, attendance and behavior.
    • Assists teachers in identifying methods for enhancing parents’ ability to support their child(ren)’s learning and success.
    • Works closely with and develops trusted relationships with parents and school teams. Facilitates cross-team cohesiveness and increases communication effectiveness.
    • Collects data for program evaluations.
    • Works with supervisor and school to ensure program success.
    • Organization-wide
    • Meets regularly with and provides regular updates to immediate supervisor about current work happenings.
    • Attends monthly staff meetings and quarterly team-building activities.
    • Participates in occasional Thrive events within the community outside of normal work hours.
    • Works as part of Thrive team by supporting other team members and various organization programs.
    • Other duties as assigned.

Education, training, experience, certification requirements:

    • Four year degree in social work, education, or related field
    • Plus, advanced two year degree in social work, psychology, education or related field preferred
    • Additional two years of experience working with families and public schools in a supportive role is preferred

Compensation: $26,000 – Full time/school-based (40 hours per week, summers off)
