This is a time of rapid growth for Thrive and our development and marketing systems need to support that growth. The Managing Director of Marketing & Development will lead Thrive’s efforts in strategic planning and develop fundraising initiatives, building and managing relationships with donors and expand awareness about the organization.

The Managing Director of Marketing & Development is a member of Thrive’s Senior Leadership Team. This team consists of the Executive Director, the Managing Director of Marketing & Development, and the Managing Director of Operations. They share the responsibility to lead the organization in innovation, collaboration, and effectiveness while maintaining Thrive’s core beliefs and values. Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Managing Director of Marketing & Development will fully participate in fundraising and building stakeholder relationships. S/he will have demonstrated success managing and coaching others and believe that s/he should be held directly responsible for accomplishing Thrive’s goals.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

Job-Specific:

  • Works closely with the Executive Director, Managing Director of Operations, and the Board of Directors to develop and implement the strategic plan.
  • Manages all aspects of development and marketing to ensure that both meet expectations of Managers, the Board, and other stakeholders.
  • Formulates, directs, and coordinates marketing activities and policies to promote the organization, programs, services, and activities.
  • Identifies, develops, and evaluates marketing strategies based on knowledge of establishment objectives, market characteristics, and other factors.
  • Approves marketing materials describing and promoting the organization, programs, services, events, and activities.
  • Partners with advertising, promotion, and public relations vendors on various projects.
  • Evaluates the financial aspects of the marketing and development departments, such as budgets, expenditures,
    and return-on-investment.
  • Creates, designs, and leads effective annual appeal campaigns for the organization.
  • Oversees all website and social media efforts and content.
  • Trains, educates, and supports Board Members and Staff to ensure efficacy of marketing and development
    plans.
  • Champions the hiring, training, supervision, and performance evaluations of development and marketing staff
    and oversees their daily activities.
  • Participates in occasional Thrive events within the community outside of normal work hours.
  • Works as part of Thrive team by supporting other team members and various organization programs.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with major investors to secure and steward support.
  • Designs, leads, and implements a successful and sustainable development and marketing plan with goals to
    match organization’s growing needs. Reviews and modifies the plan as necessary and appropriate, minimally on
    an annual basis, in order to ensure that goals are being met.
  • Implements a diverse portfolio of fundraising strategies and continually seeks new strategies for growth and
    innovation.
  • Ensures that Senior Leadership, Board, and Ambassadors use a prospect management system that identifies
    prospects, initiates communication, develops appropriate cultivation strategies, moves potential donors in a
    timely fashion toward solicitation, makes solicitation when appropriate, and maintains relationship and
    increases gift of donor when appropriate.
  • Facilitates and leads donor engagement meetings with the team on a weekly basis and provides regular and
    consistent fundraising status reports to Executive Director, Board Members, and Staff.
    Ensures that effective system is in place to maintain accurate internal records.
  • Manages a portfolio of major donors ($10,000+), including existing as well as prospective donors. Implements a
    diverse portfolio of fundraising strategies and continually seeks new strategies for growth and innovation. Builds
    and maintains these meaningful relationships to increase support and enthusiasm for Thrive’s mission.
  • Secures high-level meetings for Executive Director, Senior Leadership, and her/himself to solicit large gifts from
    a variety of sources, including but not limited to: individuals, private/family foundations, and corporations.
  • Works with the Board of Directors by leveraging their resources and networks, ensuring that each Board
    Member has an active major prospects list, and is working toward their annual Give or Get obligation.
  • Creates and analyzes various metrics for measuring the success of individual fundraising and marketing
    campaigns and measures these against Strategic Initiatives.
  • Ensures brand messages are consistent, strategic and prevalent. Maintains awareness of current trends and
    strategies and implements them as appropriate.
  • Works with Executive Director and Managing Director of Operations to plan an annual budget and track
    expenses.
  • Compiles and manages return on investment for marketing campaigns and fundraising events.
  • Supervises and coaches development and marketing staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education, Training, Experience, Certification Requirements:

  • Four-year degree in business, communications, marketing, or related field,
  • Plus, 5 years related work experience, OR
  • An equal combination of education and work experience.
